| We
believe the acid rain will discolor and deform the objects. We also
think it will kill the plants. We think that the acid rain will evaporate
and then fall as rain.
|
|
| We wanted to find out how acid rain effected the earth, and we wanted to have fun doing our science fair project. | |

First,
we washed out the terrarium with soap, bleach and water. Next, we
sanded off the board the terrarium is standing on. We put 1/2 of
a bag of gravel on the middle of the board. Next, we carefully set
the two plants, a bowl filled with acid water, a piece of wood, a penny,
two pieces of thin glass, a ceramic flower pot and a brass cup into the
terrarium. We then observed, once a week on Saturdays, what happened
to the objects in the terrarium, over a three week period.

| The
results that happened to our science project was that almost all of the
objects either discolored, deformed or died. The two plants both
wilted, then died. Both the penny and the brass cup turned a greenish-brownish
color. Parts of the wood broke off. And, nothing happened to the
ceramic flower pot, the glass or the gravel.

Our
conclusion is that acid rain will have an effect on brass, copper, wood
and plants in our environment, but it wonít have an effect on ceramic,
glass or gravel. Thus we, as a planet, may need to look at what it
is we are using as materials to build with. With the plants
being killed by the acid rain, animals (humans are animals too!)
would not have enough oxygen for us to breath and live on. As we
researched we found out that acid rain will not only effect the environment,
it will also affect humans as well. We need to take this matter seriously!
Everyone should be concerned about these results and start now to help
clean up our environment from acid rain.
