    Recording of Passage

    Alan Stewart Paton was born on January 11, 1903 in Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa. He was the first born of James and Eunice Warder Paton's four children.  He recieved his high school education from Maritzburg College from 1914-1918, and furthured his education at Natal University College from 1919-1924.  He excelled in mathematics and English but chose to major in science. 
         In 1928 he married Doris Olive Francis at Ixopo.  His first son, David, was born in 1930.  His other son, Jonathan was born in 1936.
